AKEE-SHNEE is the phonetic spelling of the Lakota word 'akisni'. "The literal translation of akisni is "to undo illness" and to promote an overall sense of well-being. Akisni immerses the individual in the life-giving primordial force of the Tanku Skan Skan or Divine Source which is found in all things and vibrates in various frequency ranges which can be further accessed and augmented through sound, music and the human voice." -- Rev. Tom Frederick, Lakota Wisdom Keeper
AKEE-SHNEE SOUND BATH: Breathe and bathe as the tonal vibrations of rattles, drums, gongs, crystal bowls, voice, and nature sounds transport you to places only your soul knows. Breathe and bathe as the vibrational frequencies cleanse, repair and restore your soul, chakras, electrical, magnetic and 5-body systems to their unique and intended alignment and purpose. Breathe and bathe as the rhythms and waves of sound carry you to inner dimensions of compassion, peace and healing. Breathe and Bathe . . .
SHAMANIC SOUND HEALING: Shamanic Healers are facilitators of healing and conductors of energy from the elements (earth, air, fire, water, ether) and the spiritual realms. A Sound Healing is an experience that cleans, repairs and restores the physical, mental, emotional, etheric, and spiritual bodies of the listener through a series of sounds, tones and rhythms selected and sequenced for that purpose.
A Shamanic Sound Healing is performed by Tonia, and the musicians and singers who may accompany her, during each Sound Bath or Sound Healing experience. Full sessions consists of opening remarks and prayer invocation, statement of each participant's intentions, sound healing, silence, journaling (optional), feedback (optional), closing. Your personal intentions for the session are combined with the overarching intention to reawaken your original divine purpose and to help you receive direct wisdom and insights from your own God-Presence so that you can express your true potential and fulfill your divine mission. Tonia transmits healing energies and alignments from the spiritual realms through the sound waves of the instruments she plays and her voice. These sound frequencies have a positive effect on your energy bodies, the neural pathways in the brain, the cells and molecules in your body and the coding in the DNA so that you can safely heal on all levels and experience the realization of your intentions. Music Therapy & Sound Healing – A Brief Overview
by Tonia Pinheiro ©2009
The physical and emotional bodies are like tuning forks that respond in resonance with compatible sounds and in dissonance with sounds that are disruptive to the listener. When in resonance we feel peaceful and are pain free. When in dissonance our body has pains, our mind is disturbed and our emotions are unpredictable.
Music is an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner. Music is the result of various combinations and layers of individual notes, sounds, rhythms, and silences, played through various combinations of sound-producing instruments that culminate into a series of coherent sound frequencies that have an effect on the human instrument. All music is sound but not all sound is music.
According to Jonathan Goldman in his book The 7 Secrets of Sound Healing, Sound is not just an energy that affects our nervous system and enters our ears and brains allowing us to experience the sensation of hearing . . . sound has the ability to go into our cellular structure and rearrange our molecules.
Therapy is care - given for the purpose of curing or restoring a person to optimal physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual health. Therapy is a combination or a series of actions, methods, tools, medicines, etc. that is intended to promote or result in wholeness and wellbeing. When the definitions of ‘music’ and ‘therapy’ are combined, we have a good understanding of the term ‘music therapy’: music and sound chosen and used with the intention to restore wellbeing.
John Beaulieu, N.D., Ph.D., is a musician, teacher and sound healing researcher who has written extensively about the therapeutic use of music and sound. In his book, Music and Sound in the Healing Arts he says that music is the appreciation of sound, that music affects life energy, and that Music Therapy is a profession which represents the re-emergence of music as a healing force. He tells the story of how a group of professional musicians noticed that the music they played in a hospital to entertain returning World War II veterans also had a positive effect on those who were exposed to the music on a regular basis. The soldiers’ morale increased, socialization skills became better, and depressions disappeared more quickly because suppressed emotions found a safe form of release through the music they heard. This was the beginning of what is now know as the field of music therapy.
Since the first act of creation by the Source of All There Is, sound and music have existed. Sound is a part of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual design. Sound and music therapy has existed for as long as people have populated the Earth although it may not have been labeled as such. In every culture, sound and music are used to heal, from a simple lullaby to calm a crying baby to a haunting drum beat to invoke visions or the rhythmic sound of ocean waves to invoke a meditative state. Sound and music have an instant and immediate effect on our emotional and mental states. Music can soothe, excite, disturb, calm, and invoke moods and feelings along the entire emotional spectrum. We are surrounded by so many sounds, both audible and inaudible, that we are now much more sensitive and responsive to sounds and music that are soothing to us. Yet what is soothing to one person’s vibrational frequency may not be soothing to another’s, so an infinite variety sound and music exists to serve and heal us all.
